The Worst President in History?

http://www.rollingstone.com/news/coverstory/worst_president_in_history

Sean Wilentz's April 21, 2006 Rolling Stone article expresses Wilentz's opinion of the current president of the United States, George W. Bush. Wilentz believes that "there seems to be little the administration can do to avoid being ranked on the lowest tier of U.S. presidents". A survey of 415 historians found that eighty-one percent considered the Bush administration a failure. A majority of voters in 43 states now disapprove of how Bush is handling his job. Only one other twice-elected president has seen his ratings go down in his second term. That president was Richard Nixon, two months prior to when he was forced to resign from office. Wilentz feels that the attacks on September 11, 2001 gave president Bush an opportunity to achieve greatness. But "Bush wasted his chance by quickly choosing partisanship over leadership". Basically Wilentz believes that everytime Bush is given an chance to improve the nation he blows it. Thus, making Bush one of the worst U.S. presidents in history.

DQ-how would the U.S. be today if president Bush was not elected?

oreo, hi

If Bush was never elected into office, we wouldn't have a monkey who chokes on pretzels commanding the world's strongrest military, America's reputation wouldnt be covered in maneur, the federal treasury wouldn't be more in debt than Tyson, and American soldiers wouldn't be risking their lives for the sake of acquiring oil, etc. Because a monkey was elected into office, the world power we call America is nothing more than a stupid piece of dirt where "free" speech is a lie, the president's daughters have drinking problems, dog fighing quarterbacks receive more attention than wrongfully convicted teens, etc.

xactly

question, what kind of cookies are you leaving out for the fat caucasian who breaks into peoples' houses?.....Oreos?

I think Bush used his 911 boost quite well. For many years Bush and the Republicans had the country right where they needed it: They were able to invade two countries, advance an anti-homosexual agenda, strengthen the Federal government, restrict civil liberties, and successfully made an electoral force out of Christians. So, when it comes to manipulation, he did better than most Presidents.

.....he shouldve been impeached and convicted of war crimes years ago...

Bush IS a horrible president. I highly agree with the article because if we were to have a different president, several of today's issues would not exist.

I agree with the article completely. George Bush is driving this country into the ground. He is blind to so many important issues and paying attention to the little ones that the problems get worse. I even wonder how the next president will be able to dig us out of the ditch we're in now.

bush may be horrible, but i gotta say that that hes a lil smarter than we give him credit for. im starting to think the voters were the dumb ones. why the hell did they vote for him to serve a 2nd term?

I think we can all agree that Bush used his presidency to serve his own agenda in lieu of the people. He is the reason for a lot of the nation's problems and i don't know how or when the country will recover. It may never be the glorious country it once was

p.s.- This is why Canada Kicks Butt.We should all go Canadian eh

I agree with the article and I agree with you too, and i feel like Bush did blow his chances in both becoming a good president and helping the community out. Ha, if he wasn't president, many of the problems today wouldn't exist, true right?

I think America without Bush would be very peaceful. I mean there would be violence but there wouldn't be thousands of men and women dying. We wouldn't be a stupid war for oil.Bush is the worse president ever all he cares about is himself. If he really cared about America we wouldn't be in this situation.

well, it seems to me that America would be in a different place and in a different situation, but who's to say it wouldn't be worse. Im not defending Bush, and I agree with the blog when it says we would be where we are, but as the saying goes, "It could always be worse." SWEET article, however! :D

i agree with my twin (seleste). we'll never know what wouldve happened if Al Gore or John Kerry wouldve won, how different things would be. things happen, no matter whose in an important position. the titanic sank, and it wasnt taft's fault. i still think the terrorist attack on 9/11 wouldve happened. maybe that was destined to occur. and if that did happen, we'll never know if congress wouldve approved a war. as mr.wood said, its congress who decides to go to war. heck, we dont even know if they may have even thought of going to war. i do agree, that Bush's presidency could have gone a little differently, maybe a little better. but its these little things like presidents, catastrophes & wars that make us who we are and shape our country's history.

I won't say that our nation would be in a better situation than it is in right now if Bush were not elected president becasue I don't know that, no one does...in fact things could be worse...but I do know that Bush will not be our president for much longer :) and I am praying and have confidence that whoever takes his place will make changes that will change the damage he has done.

I agree with the author of this article. Bush is a horrible president. He could have been the most successful president if he had chosen to handle 9/11 in a more appropriate manner. That unfortunately did not happen. I believe that America could have gotten stronger without Bush.
